Derby Jetty

Stretching out 700 meters tasting the magic of the tidal spectacular the Derby Jetty is home to some of the largest tides in the southern hemisphere. Tides typically range 1 meter, here they are 12! This makes the jetty look completely out of place at low tide with a vast mudflat with evidence of teeming marine life.

As the tide rolls in, watch the water transform the landscape, engulfing the mudflats and turning the jetty back into a perfect place to fish. the catch here includes salmon, mulloway, golden grunter, sharks and catfish or place you crab net out for the chance to catch a mud crab. You might even get lucky with a barramundi! Just make sure to use the Recfishwest app to make sure you keep within fishing regulations.

Bonus: During the annual Barramundi Season (February-March), the atmosphere here is electric!

Not into fishing? Then put on the snorkel and watch fish of all sizes swim around the clear water. Being sheltered, high tide is suitable for most levels of swimming ability.

Wanting to glimpse the perfect sunset in Derby? Well, the jetty might be perfect for you! Expect fiery oranges, blushing pinks, and deep purples. Bring a drink and stay longer when the moon is full as you will see the spectacle of the "Staircase to the moon".

Remember to be mindful of tides and currents, and always prioritize safety.
