Located 55 kilometres from Tom Price, at 1,235 meters, Mount Bruce stands tall as Western Australia's second-highest peak, offering an unforgettable challenge for hikers. This well-maintained 11-kilometer trail boasts a steady incline, perfect for getting your legs warmed up. Informative signs along the way point out the sprawling Tom Price mine, mining base, and the network of train lines that snake below.
As you ascend, the trail gradually intensifies, testing your determination. But don't give up! The effort is rewarded with breath-taking vistas that unfold beneath you. Witness a tapestry of spinifex grasslands, rugged gorges, and the vastness of the Pilbara landscape.
Reaching the summit is a moment of triumph. But the view that greets you is more than just stunning scenery. Gazing down, you'll see the Tom Price mine, a large open-cut pit that has been the lifeblood of the town for decades. This stark contrast between human industry and natural beauty offers a unique perspective on Tom Price's history and its dependence on mining. On a clear day, the panoramic views truly leave you speechless. Don't forget to capture these awe-inspiring moments with your camera!
The best time to go for this walk is during the cooler months April to October however mornings when the weather is warm is also ideal. Make sure to wear proper footwear as the track can become difficult with uneven and slippery surfaces (it is marked a class 5 hike), bring plenty of water about 2 litres per person, remember to stay sun smart with slip slop slap, and snacks like fruit or muesli bars will do you a treat.
