There’s no better place than the thriving livestock sales to witness Rockhampton’s rich agricultural heritage. The iconic Central Queensland Livestock Exchange (CQLX), established in 1953, is a cornerstone of the way of life in Queensland. Every Wednesday (except holidays), this facility houses the top farmers, breeders, producers, and buyers of the state looking for the ideal cattle.

As the auctioneer chants out, potential buyers gather around, and the atmosphere comes to life. Bids are placed strategically, hands rise and fall, and the gavel slams, sealing the deal. It's a captivating dance of commerce, where tradition meets modern practices. If you are lucky, you might encounter sales dedicated to calves or specialist stud bulls with superior genetics. This is a great environment to get a glimpse into the daily lives of those working in the agricultural industry.

Rockhampton's livestock sales, open to the public, make for a surprisingly interesting day out. Get up close to farm animals, learn about different breeds, and gain a newfound appreciation for where our food comes from. Just remember, these are primarily commercial events, so follow any safety guidelines.
