There are loads of sinkholes all around Mt Gambia but none are like Umpherston Sinkhole. Created by the limestone cave roof collapsing in 1886, James Umpherston had the idea to create one of Australia's best gardens of today. With multiple levels, the staircase will let you walk right down into the cave garden and admire it from different perspectives.
At night time the cave garden comes alive as hundreds of possums come out to eat. Walk around the top of the sinkhole to see if from different perspectives and viewing platforms as you’ll want to spend a bit of time here admiring it. If you have been to Mexico, you will flash back and image yourself exploring cenotes.
For more, you can visit the Cave Gardens in town where a sound and light show invites you every night to go beyond and learn about the area’s first people, and 9AM to 12PM Saturdays, there is a farmers market.
Interestingly, this was the towns first supply of water. After rain you might also see a waterfall cascading into the hole.
