Make your way along the well-lit scenic walkway connecting the cinema to the city by The Esplanade-Damoe Ra Walkway to have a pleasurable night watching a movie under the stars at Darwin’s award-winning open-air cinema where the sunset offers a fiery glow in the background.
Gates open at 6:00 pm, allowing you to savour the breathtaking tropical sunset before the 7:00 pm screening begins. While watching the sunset, grab a drink (BYO is not permitted). On Wednesday’s and Friday’s Hanuman restaurant prepares thai and Indian dishes to just make the experience better. Seating includes deckchairs with pillows. However, for the ultimate comfort, bring your own but keep an eye out for mischievous possums that are also looking for a seat.
Operated by Darwin Film Society since 1954, bringing in a range of movies that otherwise would have never made their way to Darwin, the Deckchair Cinema isn't just a movie; it's a quintessential Darwin experience. So, on your next trip to the Top End, be sure to catch a film under the stars and create memories that will last a lifetime.
